The mental health of teachers in school is just as important as the well-being of the pupils they support.  Recent research reveals some alarming statistics, including that 74% of teachers are unable to relax and have a poor work-life balance. This book examines a range of relevant issues including workload, managing behaviour, developing resilience and managing professional relationships in order to address some of these concerns and provide comprehensive guidance and workable, evidence-informed strategies to support all those teaching in schools and colleges.

Following the completing of my Masters in Research project; ‘Promoting mental-health and wellbeing within the primary school curriculum’ I have found the addition of these two new reading materials highly useful for continuing my work within school.

Both books are extremely accessible and easy to read.  The chapters are clearly set out and cover all areas as suggested by the title of the book.  Each chapter provides the reader with background research, critical questions, case studies, strategies and also questions to provoke reflection.  These books are worth a read for anyone who is currently teaching in Education at any stage of their career.  I will certainly use extracts form ‘Staying Mentally Healthy During Your Teaching Career’  in delivering CPD during full staff meetings.

I fully believe that supporting and promoting mental health and wellbeing should be at the heart of all school’s ethos, aims and vision.  These books are a great addition, packed full of useful materials to help in delivering this.
